Prologue: The Angelic Bible, Genesis 1:1-33

In the beginning, there was battle. The universe was alight with the fires of war; the Gods fought the Devils across countless worlds, leaving barren planets in their wake.
Reasons had been forgotten long before, both sides evenly matched, locked in seemingly endless struggle.
So it had been, so it was, so it would be.
Complete and utter annihilation was inevitable.

And thus, the Great Convention was held.
Near the Galactic Core, Jehova - leader of the Gods - and Lucifer - leader of the Devils - met and together they framed the Commandments, a list of rules meant to withhold any God or Devil to enter combat ever again.
The Convention was not held out of a wish for peace, however, but out of simple self-preservation.
As such, They devised a way to continue Their war.
As such, They created man.

This perfectly neutral being was fashioned evenly after both Jehova and Lucifer and given a soul. This immortal soul would be Their contest; to sway as many as possible to Their views until the end of time, when the victor would be decided.
For this purpose, both the Gods and the Devils created Their minions, not unlike man, but with more resemblance to Themselves.
Jehova created the Angels, Lucifer begot the Demons.

So, as man was seeded across the universe to begin their life as pawns and to build their civilizations, holy and unholy creatures moved between them, unknown to each other and their lesser kin, helping or hindering, but always influencing.

We are Their servants.
We must succeed, lest the universe be plunged in darkness.
We must succeed, lest our Masters, our protégés and we are doomed.
We must succeed.
